Hogenakkal falls situated on the border of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, is a well-known river, the river Situated in the Dharmapuri district of Tamil Nadu, this waterfall derives its name from Kannada words. It is a combination of two words – Kannada smoke and stone.
There is a reason for the name to come this way. That is, when the Kaveri River is overflowing with huge boulders at many tributaries, the atmosphere is literally lit up with hostility. The water of the falls is smoked from the rocks without being seen. Hence it is named Hogenakkal. Dharampuri, also known by the name Kaveri, is a waterfall located at a distance of 40 km from the town and about 150 km from Bangalore.
The best way to get there is to reach Hogenakkal from Bangalore via Hosur, Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri. Local vehicles are available from Dharmapuri if rent or own vehicles are not available. Buses are available from Bangalore to Hosur and Dharmapuri. Best time to visit this waterfall is during the rainy season and after. On this occasion, the river Cauvery is filled with water and the sight is breathtaking.. However, the place can be visited at all times, not just in the rainy season. You can enjoy the ride of the rafting n the water, especially during the summer. It is usually not available in the rainy season.
