PLACES MUST VISIT IN BELGAUM DISTRICT

Belgaum is located in northwestern parts of Karnataka and lies at the border of two states, Maharashtra and Goa. Belgaum is well known for its pleasant climate throughout the year. The ancient name of the town of Belgaum was Venugrama, meaning Bamboo Village. Kittur in Belgaum district is a place of historical importance. Rani Chennamma of Kittur is well known for the resistance to British rule. The languages spoken in this district are Kannada and Marathi

The Fort
The Belgaum fort is in the heart of the city. The fort was built in the 12th century AD by the Ratta rulers. Belgaum fort is an ancient architectural pre-Muslim monument where mosques and temples co-exist in perfect harmony. There are 2 shrines at the entrance of the fort one dedicated to the Lord Ganapathi, and other to Goddess Durga. Safa mosque is one of the two mosques inside the fort.

Gokak Falls
Gokak falls  is about 65 km from Belgaum and 6 km from Goakak. The Gokak Falls is a waterfall located on the Ghataprabha river. River Ghataprabha takes a leap over a rocky bed 170 ft down. The falls are horse-shoe shaped at the crest, with a flood breadth of 177 metres. The best season to visit Gokak falls is June to September

Godachinmalki Falls
Godachinmalki Falls is about 16 km from Gokak. River Markandeya takes the first jump from a height of about 25 metres and flows into a rocky valley and takes second jump at a height of about 18 metres.

Kittur
Kittur is located at a distance of 44 km from Belgaum. Kittur is a place of historical significance. Rani Channamma of Kittur is known for her resistance to British rule. A ruined fort, formerly the residence of the chief of Kittur can be found here

Saundatti (Savadatti)
Saundatti also known as savadatti  is about 80 km from Belgaum. Saundatti is one of the major pilgrim centre of Karnataka. Saundatti is well known for beautiful and ancient temple of Goddesss Renuka also called as Yellamma Temple  The temple is built in the Chalukyan and Rashtrakuta Style and the Carvings reflect the Jain architecture. The temple was constructed by Bomappa Naik of Raybag in the year 1514. The other temples found in the premises are Lord Ganapathi, Mallikarjun, Parshuram, Eknath, Siddeshwar. There is a spot called Jogulabhavi here, where there is a temple. Pilgrims take a holy dip here before visiting the Yellamma Hill

Vajrapoha Falls
Vajrapoha Falls is located at a distance of 60 km from Belgaum. Vajrapoha Falls is on the Mandovi River in the hilly surroundings of the Jamboti. Here the river Mahadayi flowing in a serpentine fashion takes a first jump from a height of about 60 meters.
