Devarayanadurga is located at a distance of 65 km from Bangalore and 25 km from Dobbaspet. Devarayanadurga is situated in the midst of picturesque scenery at an altitude of 3940 feet in Tumkur district
The rocky hills of Devarayanadurga are surrounded by forests and several temples including the Yoganarasimha temple and Bhoganarasimha temple are located at the hilltop. Devarayanadurga is also famous for ‘Namada Chilume‘, a natural spring considered sacred and is also considered the origin of the Jayamangali River.

Other names of Devarayanadurga are Aane bidda sari, Jadakadurga. The current name is in honor of Sri Chikkadevaraja Wodeyer, who captured the territory in the late 17th century.
Devarayanadurga has three elevations and seven gates leading to the top. On the first elevation situated is Lord Lakshmi-Narasimha Temple. Near by is a spring also known as Ane-done.
 On the middle elevation are the Rama-tirtha and Dhanus-tirtha. It also houses a Government travelers bungalow and few other places of rest. There is a large cave nearby with idols of Lord Rama, Sita and Lakshmana.

On the last elevation a temple of Narasimha, known as the Kumbhi is found. This Narasimha temple consists of a Sanctum house, a Sukanasi, a Navagraha mantapa and Mukhamantapa. Apart from the temple there are three sacred ponds; Narasimha teertha, Parasara teertha and Pada teertha are also found here.

Namada Chilume:
It is believed that Lord Rama shot an arrow into the ground and created a spring to wet his “NAMA” (a sandal paste, Hindus applies on their forehead). This spring is referred as ‘Namada Chilume’. The spring can be still seen, and there is a foot impression of Lord Sri Rama near the spring.

Festivals at Devarayanadurga
Car Festival: The annual Car festival is held on the day of Phalguna Masa Shudha Poornima (March/April) in Devarayanadurga. On this day the Ratha of Lord Bhoganarasimha is drawn in the main Car Street of the hill town.
Sri Narasimha Jayanthi: Narasimha Jayanthi is celebrated on Chaitra Shudha chathurdashi (May).
