Sravanabelagola is a historical and religious attraction of Hassan district. Shravanabelagola is a major attraction of the site as well as a major religious center for the Jains. The sculptor is said to be a pupil of the Vishwakarma class. According to another belief, the statue of Veera Shambhu Kalkuda, the famous sculptor of Tulunadu, is believed to have been overlooked. To reach the Vindhigiri hill with the statue, one has to climb 700 steps. The Doli or Pallaki system is also available for those who cannot afford it. In front of Vindhyagiri is a small hill or Chandragiri hill with ancient basadis.
There are many Jain monasteries and basadis in this sacred area of the Jains. Ancient and tourist attractions like Bhandari Bulma Basadi and Chandranath Swamy Basadi can be visited here.
It is also known as the “Jaina Kashi”, a sacred place for the Jains, just as Kasi is sacred to Hindus. Another special feature is that the Gompa statue is held every 12 years. Millions of Jain devotees come here from all over the country on this occasion
How to reach Shravanabelagola There are no railway stations. Those who travel by state transport can avail direct bus services from Bangalore to Sravanabelagola.
